Dad and ICU

Not the first and not the last.

Last week, I got a shocking news that my father was admitted in the intensive care unit in my hometown hospital.

It was a text message that I received from my sister who forwarded the text message from my baby brother (whose eldest son is the eldest grandkid in the family). At first, I was just staring at my mobile. Then I looked at the message again and looked up at the ceiling. Sat up, and I realised what it was.

“Dad is in a serious condition!”

Panic! I called up my dad but my youngest brother picked it up. I called my favourite uncle JL to tell him about my father’s situation. Although just a first cousin of my dad, I respect him more than others as he is always there for us. Although he is just a first cousin..

I asked for his advice whether I should go home on the next day. “My work doesn’t allow me to go now, so what should I do, uncle?”

Uncle JL called up some people and the doctor while I was lying down in bed with tears of grateful to God, feeling so weak. (Grateful that dad was not alone when it happened.)

That same morning, I got several text messages from uncle that there was no need to rush home now (and all what he knows about dad’s health problem).

Not now but soon as the tickets are ready for me to just take off. I am supposed to suprise my family when I go home this coming weeks to visit them. I guess I have to skip that surprise part as dad is expecting me soon.

My head was aching the whole day and my mood was really down. But none of my colleagues knew what happened as I didn’t act strange. One person did note though after one minor mistake that I made.
