Happy Harvest Festival To All Sabahans

“Kotobian tadau tagazo do Kaamatan kumaa saavi-avi paganakan om tambahut ku doid nombo kou nopo doiti id pomogunan diti.” (A wish in Kadazan language.)

Happy Harvest Festival to all my family and friends whereever you are in this world.

Below are some of the youtube video clips I’ve found to share with you all, about my background as a Kadazan. May is the month for the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut of Sabah and the grand finale will be held on the 30th and 31st of May in Sabah, Malaysia which we can see our new “Unduk Ngadau” (Harvest Queen).

Enjoy the video clips. Thank you to all the people who have downloaded the clips so we, from far away, can enjoy the feast back home. “Jauh di mata, dekat di hati.” Far from the eyes, near at heart.

I have chosen the clips below because they bring back the memories when I was still back home.

The first clips are with the sompoton. Sompoton is a traditional musical instrument from Sabah along with Gong and Kulintangan which is a trademark for Sabahan people and culture. Let’s dance the SUMAZAU.

My Dearest Friends

As we sit here day after day sharing
our lives, our dreams, our fears, our failures
It is still amazing to me how
YOU once a total stranger
have become some of my dearest, closest,
cherished Friends.
YOU are as important to me as
any of my personal friends,
my family or my neighbours,
YOU make me smile
when you share your joys,
YOU make me laugh
when you tell me stories!
YOU make me lonely
when you are gone.
YOU are in my thoughts each day
and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
To you… dear friends’s here on the web!
I love and adore you.
Please stay close.

A Gospel in Dusun

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I would like to share this beautiful song in Dusun (a dialect from Sabah) composed and sung by our Rev. Fr. Peter Abas. It is beautiful how we can praise our Lord for His love. Let’s sing and praise together.

“Rev. Peter Abas composed and sung this Kadazandusun spiritual hymn. Experiencing Our Lord as the Way, the Truth and the Life. As we journey each day, we might encounter the ups and downs of life, nonetheless let us never give up. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.”

Today’s horoscope

This was in my email box this morning. I have been thinking about this for quite a while now. And  now I get this which normally I just direct them to the bin. But not today.

Your horoscope for May 26, 2009

If you have encountered a lot of resistance over some of your projects, Jenn, you should probably just let them go. It’s possible you are still doing something a certain way, even though your goals have changed. Before, all you thought about was getting ahead in your career. Is that all you still want? Think about it.

Probably it’s time to give it a very good thought. What do I REALLY want?

Rotterdam Today

I have no clue what’s going on with the server today but I lost all what I have typed the last half an hour or so when I pressed the Save Draft button. Instead of rewriting them, I guess I will just share some photos taken today. I hope I don’t waste my time on this one too.

All the buildings you see in the pictures below are near the Rotterdam Central Station.

The CS is under construction since 2006 and is planned to complete by 2010 (crossing my fingers, you know how the Dutch schedules are. Summer stop. Winter stop.).

Hence you see all the work going on.

Sepi (Lonely)

Last October while walking at the Parkson Grand in Kota Kinabalu, I remembered to find some Indonesian films. I went inside a video store and found the Indonesian movies that I was looking for. Then I saw a Malay film called Sepi. I picked it up and read the synopsis. It brought back some memories that happened ages ago. I took 2 more DVDs and went to the counter.

Back home in Europe, I took the DVDs and put them in the shelves. Seven months later, when the memories were coming back, I remembered Sepi and played it.

I haven’t watched Malay movies for years but I know when there is a very good movie. It touches your soul deeply and opens up your heart.

This film is about 3 people’s love story who met by chance in a tragic accident of a young girl, the death of a wife and all this tragedy that happened at the same time was witnessed by a man whose love life was in a chaos.

These are the love stories of Adam, Sufi and Imaan.

Adam is a bachelor restaurateur who put most of his passion in baking wedding cakes. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved and cared for him. Despite all the people around him, he was a lonely man. Because of his status, he always ended up sitting with the other bachelors in a wedding party. One day, while waiting for his car after attending a wedding party, he smelled the camelia scent. It was tucked at the back of a young lady’s hair. From then on, he was secretly in love with her. But there was a huge problem: she was getting married soon with a man she chose before meeting Adam.

Sufi is a business man. On a day he told his wife that they had to postpone their holiday, he hit a girl who all of a sudden was running in front of his car. Bumping his car to a street vendor, he then made sure that they both were fine. He went out to check on the girl and in a split second, he heard there was a crash. His car was hit by a big car with his wife still sitting inside. He run to try to safe her but then the car exploded. Since then he’s engulfed with guilt. He ran away from his son and his work. During his run away, he met a woman whom touched him in many areas. He fell in love with her and so did she. But she couldn’t leave her husband because of feeling guilty. Then she found out she was pregnant after 7 years of trying.

Imaan is a college student who writes script for a play. When the male actor of the play, Ean, was complaining about the way the script was written, she was so upset that she left the theater hall. Ean felt guilty and went to chase after her and begged her to teach him on how to present the poem. She scolded him for being so selfish but he kept on begging her until he did something humiliating to get her attention. She found it funny and finally agreed to teach him.  they spent much time together to study. Without noticing, Ean fell in love with Imaan but Imaan just couldn’t give him her love back as she was desperately in love with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend was a quiet and gentle man and trusted her with whatever she was doing. But one day when she spent too much time with Ean and the play group after promising to Khalil that she wouldn’t see him anymore, she saw Khalil was wathching her from afar. Chasing after him, she found herself in a tragic accident.

Some verses from the film:

Ilyana to Adam: “When we met, everything is too late.”

Adam to Ilyana: “But why are we meeting just to say goodbye?”

Adam at his sister’s wedding: “In a marriage, it is important to have the ingredients right.”

Ilyana to Adam: “It is strange, how life changes in a blink of an eye. Maybe there’s no more us. It’s not meant to be.”

Marya to Sufi: “Why are you always running?”

Sufi to Marya: “I run so that I can breathe. So that I won’t be suffocated by guilt.”

Marya to Sufi: “I don’t want to pin your hopes on me.”

Sufi to Marya: “Marya, out of the millions of people in the world, why were we destined to meet, if we weren’t meant to be together?”

Marya writes to Sufi: “Sufi, my heart belongs to you. Forever. But happiness belongs to my child. Today I find out that I’m pregnant. You always believe in destiny. What’s our destiny now, Sufi?”

Sufi writes to Marya: “I used to think that love only came once in a lifetime. But I’ve been blessed with a second love. Destiny says that we can’t be together today. But I believe that we’ll be together some day. I’ll wait for you here, Marya. At the place where we first met.”

Sepi hati terjadi lagi (Lonely heart happens again)
Mungkin sampai mati aku sepi (Maybe till I die I’ll be lonely)
Biar senyum hadir di hariku (Let smile present in my day)
namun ini hanya ada di bibir (But this is only in (my) lips)
di bibir saja (Only in (my) lips)

Aku ini yang bisa mengerti (I – who can understand)
walaupun yang lain mau mengerti (even the rest want to understand)
Namun berat beban hidupku (however tough my life is)
biarkan saja (let it be)
Biar saja hanya ku yang tahu (Let it be me who knows)

Sejarah cinta dan hidupku (The history of my love and life)
penuh duri dan banyak ranjau (full of torns and challenges)
Butuh kesabaran yang penuh (needing all patience)
untuk tetap ku berdiri (so I can stand)

ada saatnya ku bicara (there’s a moment for me to talk)
bila hatiku telah bulat (when my heart is sure)
Sepanjang ku bisa atasi semua (while I can handle all)
aku tetap diam (I just keep silent)

sejarah cinta dan hidupku
penuh duri dan banyak ranjau
butuh kesabaran yang penuh
untuk tetap ku berdiri

ada saatnya ku bicara
bila hatiku telah bulat
Sepanjang ku bisa atasi semua
aku tetap diam

THE LIMA – KAU ADA DIA (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) OST SEPI
by ical84 on Youtube.

Sudah lama ku memendam rasa
Cinta di dalam dada
Namun tidak pernah bersuara
Kerana takut kecewa

Ku tunggu waktu yang lebih baik
Untuk langkah pertama
Jauh dari apa yang ku kira
Hatimu ada yang punya

Di dalam mimpi kita berdua
Mesra bersama dilamun cinta
Oh tetapi kenyataannya aku sedar kau ada dia

Mungkin juga semuanya salah ku
Terlalu mengharapkan cinta
Tapi sepi yang merasuk kalbu
Membawa angan melayang

Di dalam mimpi kita berdua
Mesra bersama dilamun cinta
Oh tetapi kenyataannya aku sedar kau ada dia.

ZAF & LAH VE – AKU BUKAN UNTUKMU (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
by ical84 on Youtube.

Dahulu kau mencintai ku
Dahulu kau menginginkan ku
Meskipun takkan pernah ada jawabku
Tak berniat kau tinggalkan aku

Sekarang kau pergi menjauh
Sekarang kau tinggalkan aku
Disaat ku mulai mengharapkan mu
Dan ku mohon maafkan aku

Aku menyesal telah membuatmu menangis
Dan biarkan memilih yang lain
Tapi jangan pernah kau dustai takdirmu
Pasti itu terbaik untukmu

(Bukan untuk ku… bukan untuk ku….)

Dahulu kau mencintai ku
Dahulu kau menginginkan ku
Meskipun takkan pernah ada jawabku
Tak berniat kau tinggalkan aku

Sekarang kau pergi menjauh
Sekarang kau tinggalkan aku
Disaat ku mulai mengharapkan mu
Dan ku mohon maafkan aku

Aku menyesal telah membuatmu menangis
Dan biarkan memilih yang lain
Tapi jangan pernah kau dustai takdirmu
Pasti itu terbaik untukmu

Janganlah lagi kau mengingatku kembali
Aku bukanlah untukmu
Meski ku memohon dan meminta hatimu
Jangan pernah tinggalkan dirinya untuk diriku

Kau bukannya, Kau bukannya..(5x)

Aku bukannya…

Janganlah lagi kau mengingatku kembali
(Janganlah…3x)
Aku bukanlah untukmu
Meski ku memohon dan meminta hatimu
Jangan pernah tinggalkan dirinya untuk diriku

Untuk diriku…

To Cousin Rubyrosa

My little (now big) cousin is getting married. I feel so bad that I will not be at her wedding on 1 June 2009. I might not be there but my heart will. This page is dedicated to my beautiful cousin Rubyrosa Stephenie.

“The Wedding” by Jody Wayne. (Youtube video clip – by bethulie13. Thank you.)

Rubyrosa

To my sweet cousin,

We were at Mile 6, Putatan on the day and night before your mummy and daddy were to be wedded. I remember sleeping in the same room with your mummy and we had a little chat.

The next day, our other (now in heaven) cousin and I were dressed up as the flower girls. We were so cute and sweet together. I was still a very little girl but I remember it well.

When your mummy went towards the altar for your daddy, I found that your mummy was the most beautiful woman in the church on that day. I was fond of her and I still am.

After your brother was born, you came along. It was a joyous day for the family to have yet another daughter/niece/granddaughter/cousin with us. We were overjoyed.

A clever girl at school, and later graduated from college. You then dedicate your service to the hospital.

Now my dear cousin, you have found someone that you love dearly and passionately and are ready to be tied in matrimony.

I am so happy for you and I wish you both joy and lots of love, peace and happiness in your marriage.

May the love you plant together will be fruitful and multiplied and to share all moments among the people you love.

With lots of love,
Your big sister

Wish I Was Home Today

Saturday: 23 May 2009

*Sob*Sob* I wish I was home today.

Today was Sis Myra and Marcel’s wedding reception in Ranau, Sabah. This reception is held in mami’s hometown for other family members to celebrate as well. Myrna, Stije and Little Zumi left first to Hong Kong and followed by Myra and Marcel. A week later, mami, Dan, Oma and her partner flew over to Malaysia.

Myra and Marcel

We have friends from the States and from Australia coming home as well which makes their home-coming rather special.

Mami was sad that I couldn’t make it to this wedding reception. She was hoping I would surprise them (especially her) as I did many times before. In fact, I did plan about it. My last minute trip home. I was about to book the ticket but due to certain circumstances, I couldn’t make it. Too bad, I was already having fun daydreaming of how I was going to surprise them in Sabah. To them, to my family and to all friends. Alas…

Sad.. sad.. sad.. I wish I was on a jet plane a few days ago already and having fun with my family and friends back home at the moment.
